Realme Buds Air_ Full Review

Realme entered the wireless earbuds market with the launch of the Realme Buds Wireless in India, it brought some amazing features that other wireless earbuds in the same price range couldn’t offer and thus became the unrivaled king of wireless earbuds in India below Rs. 2000, and now this Chinese brand is all set and has launched new wireless earbuds named “Realme Buds Air”, these are completely wireless without a neckband and looks quite similar to the Apple Airpods on the first look. We got a piece of the Realme Buds Air, unboxed and started testing it out.

Realme Buds Air Full Review:

Box Contents:

  • Realme Buds Air
  • Charging Case
  • Type – A to Type C Cable
  • User Manual

Build:

The Realme Buds Air comes in the usual Realme styled packaging which includes a square case wrapped up all in yellow color. Open the box and we see the Realme Buds Air in its charging case which eventually on the first impression looks pretty similar to the Apple Airpods. The Charging case feels plasticky and has a small circular button placed on the front, which allows pairing the earbuds with a device, the case also comes with a small LED light, which indicates charging and performs multiple functions, the case can be charged via a Type-C port which is present at the bottom. The back of the charging case also has the text “Designed by Realme” written in a small grey colored font.

Open the charging case and you’ll find the two buds perfectly held in their positions by magnets of the case, these also look much similar to the Apple Airpods and each of the buds have a small spherical headed speaker grills on the side, the two small black colored sensors could be found just next to the speaker grills. The ends of each bud have golden colored magnetic connectors, which help out the buds in charging from the case. The charging case has dimensions of 51.3 x 45.3 x 25.3mm and just weights about 42g, and the earbuds contribute each 4g so the total weight is just 50g. Each of the buds has the R and L markings to identify Right and Left respectively. Both the charging case and the buds look much similar to the Airpods and we prefer calling them Airpod-ish, these are made out of plastic and its the main reason why these buds feel very light in hand.

Connectivity, Battery, and Charging:

The Realme Buds Air comes with support for Bluetooth 5.0, and can pair to a single device at a time, the connectivity process is fairly simple and the buds get connected quite easily, the Bluetooth range is greatly similar to the Realme Buds Wireless, and they can withstand the connection up to one or two rooms away for an example.

The USP or the Unique Selling Point of the Realme Buds Air is its support for Wireless Charging, yeah you can just place the buds in its charging case over a wireless charger and pick it up anytime you want, hassle-free charging. Just open the case of the buds, and they instantly connect to the device its paired with, given Bluetooth is turned on. Also, you can just pop the buds out from your ear and the content playing will stop immediately all thanks to the proximity sensor, Realme has built-in, once you place the earbuds back in your ear, they resume the content from thereon.

The case on the earbuds have a decent 400maH battery and the battery life on the Realme Buds Air is amazing even without the charging case, and if you have the charging case on, you can place the buds back in the case when you don’t need it, and it will keep it charging it. The buds easily gave out an average battery life of 3 hours on a single charge playing at 60-70% volume, but with the charging case on we were able to get 17hrs of battery life. The charging speeds on these buds were good as well, and one could buy these without any hesitation.

Special Features:

The Realme Buds Wireless comes with some special features that most of the other competitors in this price range fail to offer, The Realme Buds Wireless come with the convenience of pulling the out of the ear, and placing them back to pause and play the content. You can double-tap on the button to play or pause music, triple tap to skip tracks and even hold the button to pull up the Google Assistant, take calls and a lot more.

The Realme Buds Air, also come with a special Low-Latency Mode (in-short an Gaming Mode) which helps to reduce the sound latency (the time it takes for the sound to travel from the phone to the buds) which can be very handy when you are playing games like PUBG Mobile, Call of Duty Mobile and lot more. A usage scenario is when, if you hear the footsteps of an enemy in the buds after a second or two, it may cause issues and here the low-latency mode comes in handy.

Sound Quality:

Similar to the Realme Buds wireless, the Realme Buds Air, are targeted to the general audience who use these for casual music listening, taking general calls and more instead of the audio geeks. It is strong in bass as it features the 12mm Bass Boost Driver, the vocals are clear and we enjoyed listening to music on these buds, but when it comes to Rock Music, the Realme Buds Air boost up the Bass a lot, and it sounds bad sometimes.

The earbuds have two microphones on each, one is used for your conversations, other for noise cancellation. If you hold both the buttons on right and left at the same time, you enter the gaming mode. Overall, the sound quality is excellent on the Buds Air, the vocals and instrumentals are clear, and we were able to distinguish them, the Buds also offer depth and with the help of the dual microphones also offer Noise Cancellation to an extent. Overall we could get some great and rich output from these buds and its fairs pretty well considering the price point.

We tried multiple calls over the Realme Buds Air, and the person at the other end was able to recognize out fairly well, the sound gets distorted at max volume but the call quality is good and you can use it for daily purposes considering how well connectivity options it offers.

Realme Buds Air Price in India:

The Realme Buds Air have an M.R.P of 3,999 INR in India and are officially sold at 3,999 INR in India, this is an absolute steal deal for people who want to buy the Airpods but can’t due to budget constraints. Realme also offers some discounts during festival seasons, so keep an eye out!

Verdict: Should you get the Realme Buds Air:

The Realme Buds Air is an absolute steal deal for people, who want an Airpods alternative. These buds excel in almost all the categories such as design, comfort, connectivity, charging, battery and sound. The main downside of these being its plasticky look and feel, and distortion in sound at Max volume. These are the best earbuds Realme has ever created and has disrupted the market with its pricing and some features such as Wireless Charging. We would recommend these to anyone without any questions, and you won’t have any major complaints purchasing these pair of buds. Lastly, The Realme Buds Air is an excellent pair of buds for the price.
