Google has recently expanded the RCS (Rich Communication Service) in the Messages app. Basically, RCS allows you to send images, videos and other media files via WiFi. iMessage on iPhones does the same thing. We rarely use the Text Message service nowadays due to the presence of Whatsapp and other instant messaging apps. But with the help of RCS Google is changing the way we use text message service. What is RCS and How to enable RCS in India on any Android phone? Let’s find out in this article.
What Is RCS?
Rich Communication Services (RCS) is the next generation SMS protocol. It offers iMessage like features including typing indicators, read receipts, file transfer, multimedia sharing and more. Additionally, it will remove 160 characters restriction of the SMS. For privacy, it has client-to-server encryption. RCS will also prevent spam messages because brands have to verify themselves in order to send a message. Now you can enable RCS in Google Messages irrespective of Carrier.
How to Enable RCS in India?
First of all, you have to download three apps in order to activate this feature.
1] Google Messages
You will have to enroll in the beta program of the Messages app. Click here to join the beta program. Then download or update Messages (Beta) app from the Play Store. Install these three apps and now follow the below guidelines step by step.
If the above method does not work on your phone then try out the following things.
Turn off one SIM Card if you are using dual SIM on your phone. Complete the verification process with just one SIM Card and then you can turn on both SIMs.
Try clearing cache or data of the Messages and Carrier Services app.
Reboot the device and follow the same method again.
Turn off WiFi and Mobile Data.
Requirements For RCS (Rich Communication Service)
Make sure both sender and receiver have RCS enabled on their phone. You will not be able to see typing indicator or read receipt without RCS. Also, it uses the internet to send and receive messages and media, so make sure WiFi or mobile data is turned on.
