WhatsApp is by far the most secure and vastly used messaging platform. Until now, they have included several privacy and security related features. The most notable of them is end-to-end encryption. With a similar approach, WhatsApp has now introduced a new browser plugin. Meta launched this privacy extension called Code Verify for WhatsApp Web. It will add an additional layer of protection to the WhatsApp web. So, you can be assured that you are using the genuine WhatsApp Web platform. The Code Verify extension validation will show that the website is not malicious. Therefore, your data privacy will be safeguarded. Interesting, right? In this post, we will tell you everything about the WhatsApp Web Code Verify extension. Keep reading to know how to use this privacy extension for WhatsApp Web.
How The Code Verify Extension Works
Cloudflare and Code Verify collaborated on this open-source plugin. It checks the WhatsApp Web code to determine whether it’s been tampered with or changed. Thus, you don’t fall victim to malicious WhatsApp Web versions. Also, it will guarantee that they do not compromise your privacy. You can use the Code Verify plugin on any other third-party website for the same reason because it is open-source.
But how does it work? Meta shows that Code Verify employs the idea of “sub-resource integrity.” It determines whether the resources being fetched aren’t changed. WhatsApp has sent the original WhatsApp Web JavaScript code to Cloudflare. When you use the Code Verify extension on WhatsApp Web, it compares the code of the version you’re using to the original one. In the event of a discrepancy, the extension will alert users.
Meta has also mentioned that Code Verify will also maintain users’ privacy. It will not attempt to access any data, metadata, user data, or even WhatsApp chats while doing so.
How To Use Code Verify for WhatsApp Web?
The Code Verify browser extension is available for Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge users.
First, you need to install it on your browser from the respective web extension store. Just search for Code Verify from Meta, tap on the result and click the Install button. After installing successfully, when you do WhatsApp Web login, it will immediately check the code of WhatsApp Web.
The extension includes three modes. If the code has been successfully validated and everything is in order, it will show a green tick. If it has detected any problem, there will be an orange signal. It tells the user to refresh the tab to resolve it. Finally, if the validation fails, it will show a red exclamation sign. If a user receives a validation failure, they may touch the “Learn More” option on the error message.
As you see in the previous picture, I personally installed the WhatsApp Web Code Verify Chrome plugin and attempted to use it. But my validation failed. If this occurs to you, WhatsApp has outlined a few measures you may take to resolve the situation. Whether your validation failed, please let us know what result you are seeing and if your issue has been resolved.
