Oneplus 7 Pro vs Redmi K20 Pro Comparison: Is it a knockout?
Published
5 years agoon
The last few months have been completely about Oneplus 7 Pro vs Redmi K20 Pro. There’s no doubt about that. These are the two phones under limelight right now and will stay until August 2019 at least. After Apple’s iPhone 2019, Note10 and Pixel 4XL can they be debarred from the hotspot. Until then, the tech community will remain about Oneplus 7 Pro vs Redmi K20 Pro, with Realme yet to surprise us! Personally, I see the K20 Pro as a “HALF-DOUBLE” scheme. Half the price, double the value! And with the Oneplus 7 Pro reaching Rs. 48,999/- and K20 Pro Chinese variants launched at Rs. 25,999/-, the “HALF” part of my scheme seems valid. The 2nd part now requires evaluation of the Oneplus 7 Pro vs Redmi K20 Pro detailed comparison.
Oneplus 7 Pro vs Redmi K20 Pro- Few things to keep in mind:
- Before we start, we must keep in mind the pricing difference between them. That is the biggest differentiating factor here.
- Realme was supposed to launch a flagship smartphone also. Instead, they launched Realme X which competes with the regular K20. We know, Realme launches phones every month and it’s already almost a month with the launch of Realme X. So, Realme X Pro ( I don’t know what else to call it) might have a surprise entrance in the Oneplus 7 Pro vs Redmi K20 Pro conversation.
- Some corners are cut in Oneplus 7 Pro to keep at least Rs. 20,000-30,000 price gap from the Samsung Galaxy S10, S10+, and other flagships. Some corners are cut in Redmi K20 Pro to keep at least Rs. 20,000-30,000 price gap from the Oneplus 7 Pro.

Oneplus 7 Pro vs Redmi K20 Pro- Specification comparisons:
Display:
This is the area where at first glance, Oneplus 7 Pro prevails. Oneplus 7 Pro sports a QHD+ 1440p FLUID-AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. K20 Pro sports an FHD+ 1080p AMOLED display with a regular 60Hz refresh rate. For a regular user, they won’t notice any difference if someone has a single phone which is the practical scenario. However, the 90Hz refresh rate makes Oneplus 7 Pro a snappy and fluid phone. Once you’re into a 90Hz panel, Oneplus 7 Pro vs Redmi K20 Pro or any comparison won’t make sense. You just can’t get out and use a 60Hz display again. It’s like Apple’s ecosystem!

Similarly, AMOLED is also an eye-ruining tech. Not that it damages eyes, but after using a Super AMOLED display myself, I just can’t go back to LCD ever again. Point to be noted, the display in Redmi K20 Pro is AMOLED, not Super AMOLED. Not that it does make much of a difference, but Super AMOLED is 20% more battery efficient and 20% brighter. However, AMOLED is a welcome change anyways. It also has a dimming tech included which reduces screen-flickering in AMOLED displays in low-brightness levels. Though, I’ve never experienced one.

As we’re talking about Oneplus 7 Pro vs Redmi K20 Pro, it’s worth mentioning that the DPI in Oneplus 7 Pro is around 513dpi. Whereas, it is regular 403dpi in Redmi K20 Pro. Even though they’re priced at huge gaps, this round is for Oneplus 7 Pro to take!
Cameras:
Both the phones here in the Oneplus 7 Pro vs Redmi K20 Pro has pop-up selfie cameras and 48MP primary rear cameras.

The rear cameras are almost similar, differentiable only in apertures. Both the primary sensors are 48MP Sony IMX586 but the Oneplus 7 Pro comes with a wider f/1.6 aperture that should come in handy in low-light situations. The same applies to the wide-angle lens. However, Oneplus 7 Pro’s one of the major con is the cameras. On the other hand, Poco F1 showed us Xiaomi’s capabilities already with cameras. For the final verdict, we have to wait for the K20 Pro to launch in India. Though from the video of MrWhoseTheBoss, the dominance of K20 Pro in it’s price segment is clear!
Performance:
Both the phone in the Oneplus 7 Pro vs Redmi K20 Pro comparison come with top of the line Snapdragon 855 chipset. There’s nothing more to explain though. It’s the best Android performance you can get in 2019. There’s no underclocked secrecy here. Both of them have 6GB/8GB RAM variants.
More: Snapdragon 710 for Rs. 10,000/-.
However, K20 Pro comes with UFS 2.0 storage according to GSMArena, but I doubt that since Poco F1 came with UFS 2.1. On the other hand, Oneplus 7 Pro comes with the brand new UFS 3.0 storage which is significantly faster. App loading times and the overall experience is just flawless in the Oneplus 7 Pro. Combining that with the 90Hz display, Oneplus is the clear winner here. Though, Redmi K20 Pro is not far behind and is miles ahead in its price range!
"Starkly superior to the latest one!" +1 if you liked these punny ads! 🤓😁#RedmiK20 and #RedmiK20Pro coming soon! The #FlagshipKiller 2.0 🥊🥊

Battery:
There’s actually no comparison of Oneplus 7 Pro vs Redmi K20 Pro here. Both come with 4000mAh battery, no wireless charging. Redmi K20 Pro sports 27W fast charge but have an 18W charger in the box. Whereas, Oneplus 7 Pro comes with a 30W fast charger in the box.
Features:
Both come with an optical in-display fingerprint scanner which is quite fast and accurate. Redmi K20 Pro has LED built-in the pop-up which does look cool. Also, it has a notification LED on the top. Though it might not be the best location, it exists and it’s appreciable! Both come with type-C ports obviously. K20 Pro sport similar speakers with Oneplus 7 Pro sporting Dolby Atmos. Both have 5Ghz WiFi support and no 5G. Obviously, both come with Android Pie 9.0 with OxygenOS for Oneplus and MIUI for Redmi on top of it. Both of them are listed in the Android Q Beta list. Both have dual-band GPS and Bluetooth 5.0.
My point is, count the number of “Both” used in the whole Oneplus 7 Pro vs Redmi K20 Pro comparison. From a caveman’s perspective, it’s impossible to guess that one of them is priced at 350Euros approx. and the other at 700Euros approx.
Oneplus 7 Pro vs Redmi K20 Pro- Verdict:
The Oneplus 7 Pro vs Redmi K20 Pro comparison completely justifies my “HALF-DOUBLE” scheme! I know there are corners cut, but what’s that extra Oneplus premium price we’re paying? Let’s see.
- 90Hz QHD+ display.
- 30W in-box charger. (K20 Pro supports 27W)
- Wider apertures in camera. (Oneplus miserably falling short in-camera software)
- Ad-free close-to-stock OxygenOS.
- Update support at least to Android T (judging by Oneplus 3T’s Pie update). (K20 Pro will receive at least Android R)
Now as a consumer, we’re to decide if this is the Oneplus-TAX we are willing to pay. Or the Redmi’s “HALF-DOUBLE” scheme makes more sense anyway!
