We have seen a number of smartphones with a high refresh rate display. OnePlus 7 Pro has a 90Hz AMOLED display while the ROG Phone 2 comes with a 120Hz AMOLED panel. Recently, Redmi has launched its 5G phone called, Redmi K30 5G in China with a 120Hz IPS LCD display. It is one of the cheapest phones to come with a high refresh rate panel. Now, the Xiaomi VP Lu Weibing has shared a video on Chinese Micro-blogging site Weibo which shows Redmi K30 5G achieving 144Hz refresh rate. It confirms that the hardware of the phone is capable of 144Hz. Let’s check out more about the Redmi K30 5G 144Hz refresh rate.
Redmi K30 5G 144Hz Refresh Rate
Xiaomi VP has shared a 15-second video on the Weibo which shows Redmi K30 running at 144Hz refresh rate. Mr Lu Weibing says that it was a test in a laboratory. He did not specify whether a future update will add the 144Hz option on Redmi K30 5G or not. He also mentioned that the device is being tested with a 144Hz refresh rate, but that does not mean that the technology will make its way to end-users. As of now, we can say that it was a test and the hardware of the phone is capable to run at 144Hz. However, the phone comes with a 120Hz refresh rate option which is 2x compared to regular displays. Also, the 144Hz refresh rate will definitely consume more battery compared to the 90Hz and 120Hz and it might be the reason why the highest refresh rate is restricted to 120Hz.
In past, we have seen the same thing with the Redmi K20 series. The phone was launched with a normal 60Hz display but some modders over at XDA Developers were able to increase the refresh rate to 75Hz. Not just that but it might be possible to increase the refresh rate of Redmi K20 series up to 90Hz!
