Sony A6400 World’s Fastest AI Powered Mirrorless Autofocus Camera Launched

Recently, Sony at an event in  San Diego Sony Officially announced the new camera Sony A6400, an upgrade to the old model A5100, and it has some amazing upgrades, The A6400 comes with a touchscreen that flips all the way around — 180 degrees — so you get a vivid, easily adjustable preview of how you’ll look as you’re filming your latest video.

Features and Upgrades:

The Alpha A6400 features a 24.2MP APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor with a front-end LSI, which combined with the same BIONZ X image processor found the Alpha A9, A7R III, and A7 III sees the A6400 deliver an ISO sensitivity up to 102,400 and processing speeds 1.8x faster than the A6300. Sony also believes color reproduction has been greatly improved.

Sony claims the Alpha A6400 features the world’s fastest autofocus at just 0.02 sec, while for the first time in an Alpha camera Sony is introducing Real-Time Eye AF with AI-based subject recognition. This promises to be even more accurate than Sony’s current Eye AF system, which now features a right or left eye priority setting in the menu.

The Sony A6400 can shoot at ISO 32,000 or an expanded ISO of 102,400 for extremely low light conditions.

There’s also support for 4K 30fps video shooting, which utilizes the camera’s full sensor for the best results. In 1080p you can shoot at up to 120fps. It supports HDR video recording as well with HLG support. The touchscreen tilt and swivel display can turn all the way around in case you’re interested in taking a selfie or want to record a video blog. The quick subject acquisition is another of the a6400’s headlining features. Aided by 425 autofocus points (for both contrast and phase detection), it’s what (on paper) should make the a6400 ideal for quick-reaction scenarios (like action or sports photography)

Sony also reportedly announced that it’s bringing the AI-powered eye and subject tracking and animal eye AF tracking features to its higher-end models, namely the A9, A7R, and A7 III. The a6400 also still sports continuous shooting up to 11 fps using its mechanical shutter, or 8 fps in its silent shooting mode, with continuous AF / AE tracking. If you’re wondering about the math, that would be 116 frames of JPEG Standard or 46 frames of RAW compressed images.
