Last year we got flagship phones with the new Snapdragon 8 series’ first processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Following the debut, now the talk of the town is about the next processor of the Snapdragon 8-series. In March, we got a report from a trusted source that Qualcomm may release the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ SoC in May this year. But now the scenario is changed. The recent information suggests that the company has opted to delay the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 release date. According to that Chinese source, Qualcomm is working on the launch in the second part of the year. So, what’s the reason behind it? In this post, we will talk about why Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ was postponed and the most probable Snapdragon 8 Series release date.

Why Is Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ Postponed

Qualcomm was expected to release the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ processor this month. We also assumed, after the launch, new smartphones with this SoC will hit the market in June. But there are no leaks or benchmark scores yet which support the news. A Chinese leak source, Digital Chat Station, has confirmed the company will arrange the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ launch later this year. The news was shared on Weibo recently. As per their claim, the reason behind it is China’s present pandemic condition.

Reasons Behind The Delay

Right now China is again facing the fatal COVID-19 situation. So, the Chinese Government has taken a “Zero-Covid” policy. For those unfamiliar, this policy has forced the government to impose extreme lockdown measures in order to tackle the current epidemic. The Chinese government has even started using Boston Dynamics’ Spot robots and drones to monitor and warn citizens about the lockdown measures in their towns. According to the Chinese state news agency Xinhua, easing of controls would “undoubtedly lead to a vast number of illnesses.” Also, it will leave a deep wound on the economic and social development of people’s lives and health. Therefore, strict restrictions are a must now. And this is affecting the country’s productive capacity. Qualcomm’s decision to delay the debut of its next-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chip is based on this.

What We Can Expect From The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ SoC

We all know Motorola(Lenovo) has a good relationship with Qualcomm. That means the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra may become the first phone to use the new chipset from Snapdragon 8 Series. After all, the Edge 30 Pro (in China Edge X30) was the first smartphone to get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. Till now, there are no official specifications on the rumoured Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+. But experts are suggesting the GPU will get a bump while the CPU stays the same as the current flagship. Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has one powerful Cortex-X2 of 3 GHz, three extra Cortex-A710 performance units, and four Cortex-A510 efficiency cores. It’s likely to use the same Samsung TSMC’s 4nm manufacturing technology. Therefore, in terms of performance, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ is likely to outperform its predecessor. Also, Qualcomm is working on boosting the thermal performance of their processors for more powerful gaming.
