How to get Google Playground? | AR Stickers for Android!

Augmented Reality has gained impressive fame in the past few years. The viral success of AR-based apps & games, like Pokemon Go, has encouraged major tech players to invest more and more on AR. So much so, that we will soon see multiple applications of AR in Google’s ecosystem, primarily Google Images. For the meantime, the American giant has launched the successor of Google AR Sticker — the Playground. The stable version of the AR application can be downloaded only on devices that support ARCore, as of yet. However, if you are genuinely interested, you can try out the cool app from Google with a simple trick. Read ahead for details!

What is the Google Playground?

According to Google,

Playground is a new mode in your camera that helps you create and play with the world around you. Make your photos and videos come alive with Playmoji, characters that react to you and to each other. Add stickers that animate around you and fun captions that put words where the action is.
Playground understands your world, making smart suggestions to help you express yourself at the moment and bring your story to life.

What is ARCore Support? (Google Play Services for AR)

Google conducts a rigorous certification process on smartphones to check their compatibility with AR technology. Respective smartphone manufacturers help google in the process. The phones fully capable of running AR elements can install Google Play Services for AR (or ARCore.) In other words, AR-based applications like Google Playground work properly only on ARCore-supported devices listed here.



How To Get Google Playground? (For ARCore-Supported Devices)

Step 1a: Download & Install Google Camera v6.2 from here. This app is a ported version of the camera that comes with Pixel phones.
Step 1b: If the above link has any issue, you can try and find a compatible port of Google Camera at this hub.

Step 2: Download Google Play Services for AR (Google ARCore APK) from Google Play Store.

Step 3: Check your Android version and download the main app accordingly from the links below:

Step 4: And that’s it! You can now use the Google Playground.

How To Get Google Playground Without ARCore Support?

Step 1: Download Playground Patcher from here. This is the only additional step.

Step 2a: Download & Install Google Camera v6.2 from here. This app is a ported version of the camera that comes with Pixel phones.
Step 2b: If the above link has any issue, you can try and find a compatible port of Google Camera at this hub.

Step 3: Download Google Play Services for AR (Google ARCore APK) from Google Play Store.

Step 4: Check your Android version and download the main app accordingly from the links below:

Step 5: You can now use the Google Playground.

How To Use Google Playground?

Once the installation process is complete, follow these steps to find and use the Playground/AR Stickers features:

Step 1: Open the Google Camera (v6.2) app installed from the given link.

Step 2: Tap on the ‘More’ option in the camera interface. A menu will open on the screen.

Step 3: From the ‘More’ menu, click on the ‘Playground’ or ‘AR Stickers’ option.

You will now see various kinds of stickers on your screen under categories like “Recent,” “Featured,” “Playmoji,” etc. Click on any sticker you like to get started. You can even slap several stickers at once. These will appear on the background captured by your camera.



Pinch a sticker to resize it or drag around to place. If you want to take a picture or a video with these cute little characters, just click on the capture button. To delete a sticker, just drag it to the trash icon or click on the three-dot icon on the top corner and select “Clear the Scene.”

Google Playground has many stickers to play with- AvengersStar Wars: The Last Jedi, Pets, Sports, Signs, Stranger Things, Travel, Weather, etc. To download an extra sticker pack, select the desired pack and click on the Install button. You will be able to use the stickers in a few seconds.
