Redmi and Realme these two smartphone brands are doing an absolutely great job in the Indian smartphone market. They are offering great value for money smartphone. These brands are competing with each other and launching new smartphones very quickly. Recently, Realme has launched it’s Quad camera smartphone Realme 5 Pro in India and Redmi has launched Redmi Note 8 Pro in china which will come to India very soon. So, how both these smartphones compare to each other. Let’s find out in this article about Redmi Note 8 Pro Vs Realme 5 Pro.
Redmi Note 8 Pro Vs Realme 5 Pro
Before we jump into the detailed comparison, first have a look at this quick specs comparison.
Design & Build
Redmi Note 8 Pro
Let’s first talk about the design and build. Like the previous-gen Note series, Redmi Note 8 Pro also has a glass build design. The front and back are covered with the Gorilla Glass 5 which makes it more durable. Giving the glass sandwich design, the Note 8 Pro looks more premium. Also, it has the 3D curved glass on the back which makes it easier to use and feels very good in the hand. It comes in three colours, Pearl White, Ice Emerald, and Electric Light Grey. While the Realme 5 Pro comes with polycarbonate back panel which looks good but it will get scratches. The downgrade here is in terms of glass protection. Realme 3 Pro has the Gorilla Glass 5 on the front but the Realme 5 Pro has the Gorilla Glass 3+ and we can’t understand this change. Still, it will save your display from regular scratches.
Display
Realme 5 Pro Display
Realme 5 Pro has a 6.3″ FHD+ Display while the Redmi Note 8 Pro has a slightly bigger 6.53″ FHD+ Display. The technology used here is IPS and both the display have a tiny waterdrop notch on the top. There is no difference between both these smartphones. The only difference here is in terms of display size. Redmi Note 8 Pro offers a slightly bigger display. The bezels and chin are almost identical.
Performance and Software
The biggest difference between these two smartphones is in terms of performance. Realme has used a Snapdragon SoC while this time around Redmi has gone with the MediaTek SoC. Realme 5 Pro powered by Snapdragon 712 which is fairly powerful chipset and handles day to day task easier and the gaming performance is also good.
Redmi Note 8 Pro is powered by the latest gaming-focused chipset MediTek Helio G90T. The AnTuTu score of G90T is around 2,80,000 which is insane! It outperforms all the midrange chipset by Qualcomm. It also beats Snapdragon 730 and 730G at least in AnTuTu score. As we mentioned above its a gaming-focused chipset by MediaTek and looking at the benchmark scores we can predict that the real-world performance of this phone is going to be better than the Realme 5 Pro. However, few people prefer Qualcomm over MediaTek. Redmi Note 8 Pro outperforms Realme 5 Pro by a huge margin.
Realme 5 Pro comes with ColorOS 6 on top of Android 9.0 Pie while we get MIUI 10 on the Redmi Note 8 Pro. It depends on your personal preference. Both these custom skins offer very good customization options and useful features.
Camera
Dual Camera and triple camera setup is now history! 2019 is the year of Quad camera setup! Both these smartphones have a quad-camera setup on the back. Realme 5 Pro packs 48MP Sony IMX586 Primary lens while the Redmi Note 8 Pro features the latest 64MP Samsung Isocell GW1 lens. Realme also offers this 64MP lens in its upcoming smartphone Realme XT but Redmi is offering the new sensor in its Note lineup and it makes the competition even more interesting.
The other three lenses are similar on both. An 8MP Ultrawide angle lens, a 2MP Macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor. There is nothing much to compare. Sony IMX586 and GW1 both are flagship-grade lenses and its very interesting that we are getting such optics at around 15k. The selfie camera of Realme 5 Pro is 16MP while you get a 20MP unit on the Note 8 Pro.
Realme 5 Pro has a very decent 4,035mAh battery while the Note 8 Pro has a 500mAh extra battery this time 4,500mAh to be precise. Both ColorOS and MIUI are battery friendly and hence it will easily give you one day of battery life even if you are a heavy user. Redmi Note 8 Pro might perform slightly better here. Realme 5 Pro comes with VOOC 3.0 (20W) charger in the box while the Note 8 Pro comes with 18W charger in the box. There is nothing much to compare here.
Sundries
Realme 5 Pro comes with a dedicated microSD card slot which is a good thing. Redmi Note 8 Pro has a Hybrid Slot. Redmi Note 8 Pro has an IR blaster which Realme 5 Pro lacks. Everything else remains the same.
Pricing
Let’s now talk about the pricing. The base variant of Realme 5 Pro is 4+64GB which will cost you 14k Rupees while the base variant of Redmi Note 8 Pro is 6+64GB which is price at 1,399 CNY which converts to 14,000 Indian rupees. There is no confirmation on the Indian pricing yet but if Redmi brings the Note 8 series at the same price then the pricing of both these smartphones will be the same. Usually, the starting price of the Redmi Note Pro series is 14,000 Rupees and we hope that the starting price of Note 8 Pro also remains the same. It might be possible that the base variant for the Indian market will be 4+64GB instead of 6+64GB.
The top variant of both these smartphones are 8+128GB and the price of Realme 5 Pro for it is 17,000 INR while the Redmi Note 8 Pro will cost you 1k more at 18,000 INR.
Verdict: Redmi Note 8 Pro Vs Realme 5 Pro
Let’s now come to the conclusion. Redmi Note 8 Pro offers a new and very powerful chipset, a 64MP primary lens, a massive 4,500mAh battery, Gorilla Glass 5 on the front as well as back and the premium glass design. Realme 5 Pro, on the other hand, gives a good competition with Snapdragon 712 SoC, 48MP Sony IMX586, VOOC 3.0 and a Dedicated MicroSD card slot.
By looking at the specs, Redmi Note 8 Pro seems a better option. It has a powerful chip inside, bigger display, 64MP lens and bigger battery. However, we are not sure about the Indian pricing, If Redmi price it 1k or 2k higher still it seems like a very good smartphone. But you don’t want to wait much and you’re on a tight budget of 14k then Realme 5 Pro is a very good option.
