Last year, Qualcomm had launched the Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset with surprise. It brought a slightly higher clock speed as an upgrade over Snapdragon 855 SoC. The 2020 flagship Snapdragon 865 chip is a beast of a processor. It offers 8K recording, support for 200MP plus cameras, and high graphics performance. Now, it seems the company will be following the same path this year as well. It is reported that Qualcomm is gearing up to launch the Snapdragon 865 Plus SoC, an upgrade over the SD865 chipset. Continue Reading the article to know more about the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus Configuration. We will also be comparing Snapdragon 865 Vs Snapdragon 865 Plus in this article.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus Configuration and Clock Speed
Recent Galaxy Note 20 Plus Geekbench listing has revealed, and the phone is powered by a Qualcomm chipset different from the Snapdragon 865. This chipset is believed to be the Snapdragon 865 Plus. A popular Leaker, Max Weinbach, has revealed the CPU configuration for the chipset.
According to his tweet, Qualcomm is sticking to a 1+3+4 CPU core arrangement. The single prime core is clocked at 3.1GHz, the three performance cores are clocked at 2.4GHz, and the four efficiency cores are clocked at 1.8GHz.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Vs Snapdragon 865 Plus
When compared to the existing Snapdragon 865 chipset, it seems that Qualcomm has increased the clock speed for the prime core only while the other CPU cores remain unchanged. How could Qualcomm improve upon the Snapdragon 865 though? Last year, Snapdragon 855 Plus was bumped up in the GPU and prime CPU core clock speeds by 4% and 15% respectively.
It is seen that GPU improvement made the Plus processor better for high framerate displays. The Snapdragon 865 brings support for 144Hz displays. So extra GPU power could help maintain a more constant refresh rate. We Don’t expect any significant changes from Snapdragon 865 Plus. Though improvements over current Snapdragon 865 is always appreciated. It is interesting to see how the Snapdragon 865 Plus performs in upcoming Galaxy Note 20 Series.
Qualcomm is expected to launch this new processor in the second half of this year. Following, the devices powered by the same could start making their way to the market as soon as July this year. Apart from Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20 series, it could power devices from the of OnePlus, Xiaomi, ASUS and others.
