A much-awaited 5G smartphone, Redmi K30 5G has been launched in China. This is the first 5G smartphone of Redmi which supports SA/NSA dual-mode of 5G because of the newly launched Snapdragon 765G chipset. Unlike its predecessor, it comes with a punch-hole display. Redmi follows the high refresh rate display trend and offers a 120Hz refresh rate panel on Redmi K30. There is a 4G variant of the phone which comes with Snapdragon 730G SoC, and most likely only this 4G variant will come to India. Check out more about the Redmi K30 India launch and Redmi K30 price in India in this article.
There is three major difference between Redmi K30 5G and 4G variant. Instead of Snapdragon 765G 5G SoC, the 4G variant comes with Snapdragon 730G. 5G variant comes with a 30W fast charger while the 4G variant comes with a 27W fast charger. The last major difference is in the resolution of the Macro lens. Instead of 5MP, the 4G variant comes with a 2MP macro lens. Check out quick specs of Redmi K30 5G as well as Redmi K30 4G.

There is not a lot changed in terms of design. The vertical rear camera setup is present in the middle but there are 4 cameras this time. Also, there is a circular design around the vertical camera setup. USB Type-C charging port is present at the bottom alongside speaker grill and 3.5mm headphone jack. On the right side, you will find the side-mounted fingerprint sensor. We have dual-camera cutouts on the front which differentiate Redmi K30 from the K20 series.
Redmi K30 has a 6.67-inch Full-HD+ (1080×2400 pixels) hole-punch display with 20:9 aspect ratio and 91 per cent screen-to-body ratio. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Unlike the Redmi K20 series, it comes with an IPS LCD, which seems like a downgrade but it’s not a normal 60Hz LCD panel. Redmi has implemented a 120Hz refresh rate display on the Redmi K30 which seems very impressive. We ran a poll on Twitter and asked people what would they prefer between 60Hz AMOLED and 120Hz IPS LCD and 57% voted for the 120Hz LCD. OnePlus, Asus, Realme and even Google have launched smartphones with high refresh rate panels because it feels smooth and fluid as compared to 60Hz displays.
Redmi K30 is launching tomorrow in China with a 120Hz IPS LCD Display. What's your take on this?#RedmiK30 #RedmiK30Pro #RedmiK30Series

Another major change in terms of the display is the presence of Punch-hole. It seems like 2019 was the year of Pop-up selfie camera and now 2020 will be the year of punch-hole displays. OnePlus 8 series renders also shows a punch-hole display. The dual selfie camera cutouts placed on the top-right edge of the screen and the cutout is just 4.38mm thin.
The 5G variant comes with recently announced Snapdragon 765G SoC. It’s an octa-core processor which is built on the 7nm EUV process.
Snapdragon 765G comes with integrated 5G modem which consumes low power. The Redmi K30 comes with dual-mode 5G supports both SA(Standalone) and NSA(Non-standalone) networks. It also supports 5G MultiLink which allows users to connect concurrently to 2.4GHz WiFi, a 5GHz WiFi, and 5G/4G network. Snapdragon 765G is coupled with Adreno 620 GPU.
The 4G variant is powered by Snapdragon 730G processor which is a pretty powerful processor for the asking price. It is coupled with the Adreno 618 GPU. Most likely we will get only 4G variant in India but we should wait for the Redmi K30 India launch.
Minimum three to four camera lenses we are seeing nowadays in almost all smartphones. Redmi K30 comes with a quad-camera setup on the back and dual front camera on the front which includes 20MP primary and 2MP depth sensor. On the rear side, the primary sensor is a 64MP Sony IMX686 which is a successor of the 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor. The sensor size is 1/1.7″ and the aperture is f/1.9. It captures 16MP images by default by Pixel binning. It has an 8MP ultrawide angle lens with 120 degrees of field of view with f/2.2. There is a dedicated 5MP Macro lens on 5G variant and 2MP on the 4G Redmi K30. The last sensor is a 2MP depth sensor with f/2.4 for portraits.
There is a slight upgrade in battery capacity and charger ratings. It comes with a 4,500mAh battery. The extra 500mAh battery will provide extra power for the power-hungry 120Hz IPS LCD Display. The 5G variant comes with a 30W fast charger while the 4G variant ships with a 27W charger.
Redmi K30 runs on MIUI 11 which is based on Android 10. It’s nice to see Android 10 out of the box.
The 5G variant starts at CNY 1999 which is rough converts to Rs 20k. However, we will see at least 2-3k price hike compared to the China pricing. Also, probably the 5G variant will not make its way to India.
The 4G variant is what we should look forward to. It starts at CNY 1599 or around Rs 16k which is a great deal because Redmi K20 was launched at CNY 1999 in China. We have seen 2k of price hike in India. So, we can expect the starting price of Redmi K30 4G in India around 18k-19k.
The Redmi K30 5G will be available for purchase in China in January 2020 while the Redmi K30 4G will go on sale from December 12 in China. There is no confirmation on the availability in other markets as of now. Redmi K20 series was launched after 8 weeks in India. Stay tuned with us to get updated regarding the Redmi K30 India launch.
