Current situation of Jio IUC:

These new plans are introduced after the social media storm raised by netizens after October 10th. On that day, Jio announced IUC charges, i.e. Interconnect Usage Charges. In brief, this is a price that Jio has to pay to other vendors like Airtel when someone calls from Jio to Airtel. This IUC charge was till 10th October paid by Jio themselves, which they claimed are about Rs. 13k crores. But it went too heavy to bear for them and to force TRAI to make IUC charges at zero paise/min, they started charging the users.

Moreover, Jio also offered 1GB free data for every Rs. 10/- spent on IUC recharge. But this hurt the expectation of Jio users nonetheless, and finally, Jio New Plans Announced October 2019 with Free Jio to Non-Jio Calls packs. However, users already under before-IUC plans are sparred until their next recharge.

Is Jio doing it right?

Free Jio to Non-Jio Calls

Under the current situation, Jio has 3 types of users with 3 different kinds of recharge plans.

  • Those who recharged before 10th October, who are under no IUC charges and are enjoying all the drama and can wait until the situation settles.
  • Those who already recharged with Rs. 10/- or more IUC charges and are disappointed with Jio. Of course, after already paying for the plans, they’ll have to continue recharging with IUC top-ups until their plans are over and they can opt for the All-In-One plans.
  • Those who are already under All-In-One plans.

This is a big confusion created by Jio in the userbase, and not many of them are happy about it. Well, only time will tell how Jio handles the situation as the competitors are making the most of it!
