A much-awaited Realme smartphone which was previously known as Realme XT 730G has been finally launched in India at aggressive pricing. There is a total of 4 “X” series smartphones by realme which includes, Realme X, XT, X2 Pro and the latest addition is Realme X2. It is basically Realme XT with Snapdragon 730G SoC, so technically it’s Realme XT Pro, but at the same time, it’s a non-Pro variant of Realme X2 Pro, so we can call it a perfect scaled-down variant of X2 Pro. Should you buy this phone or not? Let’s find out in our Realme X2 Full Review. The phone runs on ColorOS 6.1 based on Android 9.0 Pie. We have also added Realme X2 Camera samples in this article which will give you a better idea of the camera performance. Without wasting any more time, let’s get started.

Design: New Avocado Green Colour

Realme X2 full review

When it comes to design then there is not much to talk about. It looks completely identical to the Realme XT and it’s not a bad thing at all. The design of Realme X2 or Realme XT for that matter is premium, It is covered by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 on back and front. It’s a compact device with a weight of 182 grams which is not heavy and it has all the necessary ports including a 3.5mm audio jack, USB Type-C for charging and data syncing and a dedicated microSD card slot which lets you expand the storage. The power button is present on the right sie and volume rockers are present on the left.

The only thing new about the design compared to the Realme XT is the introduction of new Avocado Green color, which is named Pearl Green in India. The side frame is made up of plastic which is not a good thing but in-hand feels is premium and there is nothing to complain about in terms of design.

Display and Sound

Everyone has appreciated the Super AMOLED display of the Realme XT and the same display has been used on the Realme X2. A 6.4″ Super AMOLED panel with a tiny dewdrop notch on top. Despite having a 6.4″ display and a notch the phone feels compact, all thanks to 91.9% of screen to body ratio. While Redmi K20 series and OnePlus 7 Series offers pop-up selfie camera, it seems like Realme wants to stick to the notch, even the bigger brother Realme X2 Pro comes with a notch but that’s not a deal-breaker here. The display itself is bright and vibrant which produces punchier colors and deep blacks. Giving an AMOLED panel, we have the in-display fingerprint sensor which is super fast and accurate and face unlock is also present which works fairly good.

It does not offer a higher refresh rate display but we can’t expect that at this price point. The display is not HDR10 certified but it has Widevine L1 certification, so you can stream HD content on Amazon Prime and Netflix. Talking about media consumption, let’s also mention the audio experience here as well. It comes with a single bottom-firing speaker, unlike the X2 Pro which has dual stereo speakers. The single speaker is loud and the sound quality is good too and the same goes for the audio quality via headphones.

Again 64MP Quad Camera Setup but 32MP Selfies!

Realme X2 packs the exact same rear camera setup as the XT. The same 64MP Samsung Isocell GW1 sensor, an 8MP ultrawide angle lens with 119° of the field of view, a 2MP Macro lens with 4cm focus distance and lastly a 2MP depth sensor. Daylight camera performance is impressive. Primary 64MP captures photos with plenty of amount of details and good colors. Sometimes, it oversaturates the photos. Low light performance is also good if not the best. The second ultrawide angle lens also captures good photos in outdoor lighting condition and struggles in low light.\

The macro lens is not really helpful in daily life for most of people and the low-resolution sensor ends up capturing photos with less amount of details, however, photography enthusiasts can use the macro lens to capture tiny objects with a different perspective. Portrait mode shots are great too! Let’s summarize the camera performance by saying, Realme X2 captures almost identical photos as the XT and even X2 Pro for that matter.

A new 32MP front shooter captures significantly better selfies as compared to the Realme XT. Selfies look sharper and skin tone is natural which makes the overall image pleasing to the eyes and dynamic range is pretty great!

Here is camera sample comparison between primary and Ultrawide angle lens. The Ultrawide angle lens performs better in day light conditions however we can see colour difference.

Here is a portrait Sample. The dedicated depth sensor does a great job in edge detection.

Portrait Sample

Realme X2 performs very good in low lighting conditions. The camera performance is pretty impressive and primary lens performs same as the Realme X2 Pro and Realme XT.

Video Features

Realme X2 supports 4k video recording at 30fps. No OIS, but EIS is present for both front and back cameras. Additionally, Realme has added support for the video recording with Ultrawide angle lens which was missing on the XT. Just like its elder sibling, Realme X2 also supports portrait video recording or boke video whatever you call it. Just like the portrait images, this mode allows us to shoot video with background blur. The edge detection and video quality are not the best still really impressive and we can adjust the amount of background blur which is nice. It also supports 960fps super slow-mo videos.

Same Battery with a Faster Charger

A decent 4,000mAh battery powers the Realme X2 which is the same as the Realme XT. However, the charging technology improved and instead of VOOC 3.0, Realme X2 comes with VOOC 4.0 fast charger in the box. It is a 30W fast charger compared to 20W of XT. An 8nm Chipset coupled with an AMOLED display ensures a day of battery life with normal to heavy usage and to fill up the juice plug in the device for half an hour and it’ll charge around 60% which is fast. Not as fast as the Realme X2 Pro, but at this price point, Realme X2 offers one of the fastest charging solutions. And just in case you don’t know, it comes with USB Type-C port for charging and data syncing.

Performance: The REAL Upgrade

One of the most obvious reasons behind the existence of the Realme X2 is the new Snapdragon 730G chip under the hood. Realme XT is a great device itself for the asking price but Snapdragon 712 is not the best for gaming. People wanted more in terms of performance and Realme has just offered the same thing with the Realme X2. Day to day life performance was good on the XT and it’s even better on the X2. Switching between apps, scrolling through social media, opening heavy apps and games and even PUBG gameplay felt smooth. We did not face any lags while using the mobile. The base variant costs 17k and that price point is one of the cheapest phones to come with Snapdragon 730G SoC.

Waiting for the ColorOS 7

realme X2 ColorOS 7

Realme X2 runs on ColorOS 6.1 on top of Android 9.0 Pie. 2019 is almost over and we were expecting Android 10 out of the box but that’s not the case here. Although ColorOS 6.1 feels fast and responsive, it needs a lot of visual upgrades. Also, there are many pre-installed apps that you can easily uninstall. Few stock apps including Themes and Web Browser sends some notification throughout the day.

Hopefully, the ColorOS 7 based on Android 10 will fix all these issues. The company has confirmed that Realme X2 will get ColorOS 7 update in March next year so we have to wait till that. Overall, ColorOS 6.1 is not a bad UI. At the launch event, Realme has also showcased the first look of Realme UI alongside new icons which looks much cleaner.
