As per the report, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has advised to replace the outdated provisions of the Indian Telegraph Act and the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act with new ones. Archaic Laws govern the telecom services in India before the 5G rollout. As per government officials, they have asked National Law University (NLU), Delhi to study the old amendments and update them with the new ones.
As per Anshu Prakash, Secretary of DoT, they have given a total time of 4 months to National Law University to submit the new draft with all necessary updates. National Law University will first contact all stakeholders of the telecom industry and take their suggestions.
